Roger Stern
Partner - Chevy Chase, Maryland
After graduating Columbia College and Law School, Roger practiced law in New York City for thirty years, specializing in negotiating and closing complex real estate transactions. For over a decade, he purchased, managed and sold commercial, office and industrial real estate. Purchases were made of roughly 300 properties, mostly free-standing commercial buildings leased by major companies on a long-term basis, including well over 100 leased to Wal-Mart and acquired in the 1980’s directly from the company. Roger negotiated the deal points of bond-net leases with Wal-Mart, primarily with David Glass (mostly before he rose to CEO), and also with other companies, including A & P, Ames, General Cinema, Toys "R" Us and Winn-Dixie. In the late 80’s, he bought Wal-Mart stores from CalPERS and from MetLife. The bulk of his acquisitions were net-leased properties with considerable appreciation potential. Currently, together with Leith, he devotes most of his time to assisting institutions and substantial persons, who seek to acquire properties suitable for investment and exchange.
